just do it

Just do it.
Mrs Gupta  a  new teacher was given charge of class nine. She became very popular with the students. All the children literally worshipped her. There was only one girl, Maya
always remained aloof. Nobody spoke to her. Her performance in the class was just average.  Mrs. Gupta felt great sympathy for her. She enquired about her from other teachers and was informed that she always stood 1st in the class, till she was in class seven. She was an all rounder, taking part in sports and other co curricular activities. Since the last one year, after her father’s death, she had become very quiet.  Mrs. Gupta was not convinced with this explanation. She observed her closely. She knew something was troubling the child. She wondered what it could be.    She called Maya and asked her about her family.  Maya was tight lipped. She never gave any satisfactory reply. The only information which she could gather was that both her parents died. Her aunt was looking after her.
The session came to an end. Mrs. Gupta started revising the course. She noticed that Maya was not attending school. There was no application for leave. She asked the students whether anyone knew Maya’s address but there was no response. The examination started, but Maya was absent. Mrs. Gupta managed to get her address from the office. After the school was over she went to   Maya’s address. Mrs.  Gupta was shocked by what she heard and saw there.  Maya’s aunt had died two days ago. Maya was left all alone in this vast cruel world. The owner of the house had sold Maya to a dancing woman for a fat amount. Maya was standing stunned.  She held Maya’s hand and loudly said,’’ Come with me. You will live with me like my daughter.’’ Everybody looked at her in disbelief, but Mrs. Gupta JUST DID IT.
